Ask Acculation: How do I control my indoor air quality?
Although we’ve certainly done multiple articles on this before, second reader question on “how do I control my indoor air quality” means it’s time for another blog post on air quality technology. I live in San Fransisco where the air is not particularly good. How do I protect my newborn baby? I’m worried both about dust from cars and blowing over from China as well as chemical emissions from our new rugs and paint. Another reader: I’ve come down with allergies. Taking control of my indoor air quality now sounds very appealing. Automobile exhaust probably responsible for some “allergies” Kudos to you for trying to take control. Funny thing about allergies: we’re getting anecdotal evidence from family and friends that all of this technology is somewhat new to the medical community as well (at least the concept that it so affordable anyone can just go out and buy it). We have friends and relatives that for years were diagnosed with minor “allergies” that everyone (including the doctors) assumed were minor pollen allergies.… Read the restReviews of our app, or working more with governments on air quality
It’s probably time to talk about our iOS mobile app again. Our recent articles on IBM Watson analytics and Google Glass generated a lot of interest with people contacting us privately to ask for advice on various start-up projects their working on. (Some more dubious then others — we’re going to an article talking generally about some of the worst mistakes we’re seeing on the start-up scene, so that readers can avoid them.) One comment we’re been getting is that we should doing more to get governments involved with our air quality app. So we decided to put some of the app reviewers from iOS on this blog (finally). The final commenter quoted below says he is a former environmental journalist, and points out that with our app you can monitor your own air quality, independent of government! He suspects not all governments will like this. We have a little anecdotal evidence he’s right.… Read the restAcculation, Inc. and AQcalc in the news!
AQcalc got mentioned in the “Green Living in DC blog!” (see their article: Explosive Wildfires awaken Fresh Air Consciousness) Note that the Air Quality Egg(TM) with dust sensor mentioned in the article (and supported by AQcalc) is already available for purchase from Wicked Devices. Like some recent CES announced products, It is an Internet of Things device (it reports crowdsourced pollution sensor readings to the Internet from all over the world to a public database) and has the advantage of also being somewhat usable outdoors (when shielded), but it’s currently still a kit. (On a coolness note, it is based on Nanode, a low-cost variant of the Arduino Open Source hardware prototyping platform. All of the Air Quality Egg hardware designs have been open sourced as well, so you can incorporate their schematics into your projects or products. Update: This means you could use AQEs as a platform to add wireless, crowdsourced seismic sensors as we suggest in this later blog post.)… Read the restRecent Comments
