Our Twitter account is a top 1% global social media influencer
According to social media rating firm Kred, our associated Twitter account is a top 1% of social media influencer globally. (Our Kred score, 751 at the original time of this writing, has since gone higher.) Thought we’d share the Kred badge as our Picture of the Day on our Instagram account. Multiple, third-party social media ratings firms, have consistently put us in the top 1 to 5% of social media influencers globally. We also a high Klout rating, and earlier social media rating firm Magnific ranked us among the most influential locally in Los Angeles. These social media rankings are, of course, an example of analytics (and, potentially, big data). Different rating firms (and techniques) have advantages and disadvantages. Kred’s claim to fame is that they are using a completely open ranking methodology. This is unlike most of their competitors, which feel a need to keep their algorithms secret to prevent gaming, among other issues.… Read the restVirtual Fashion Shoot: Acculation Fashion Line (VR data #glamour)
This time, our data-driven decisions have led us to glamour, our own clothing line, and this VR virtual fashion shoot. Who says big data analytics have to be boring? First, some background on what got us here. Remember that, umm, ‘marketeer’ who suggested (in a comment on our IG feed) that we drop data science (one of the hottest fields at the moment) and instead sell his clothing? The comment was likely automated, but we had fun with it anyway. We told him we were too busy working on our perfume line. (“Data science: the new fragrance for men.”) But then we realized — technology exists to turn our IG feed (and the photo posts on this blog) into a fashion collection. So we wanted to do a fashion shoot. But models can be hard to work with. (They got agents, and, uggg, what a hassle. We live in LA, so we know.)… Read the restData viz: scoreboards as the original analytics dashboard
Continuing our data visualization series, here is an example of scoreboards as the original analytics dashboards: the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Pylon. This is the famous pylon scoreboard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana, USA. Business “dashboards”, where executives look at status indicators coming out of analytics (or, in some cases, mathematical models) sound like an automotive analogy. However, scoreboards from sports might be a better analogy than dashboards. This photo encompasses both analogies. (There are plenty of dashboards circling around the track, in addition to scoreboards.) We’ll have more about business dashboards in future postings. Photo credit: Wikimedia. A version of this article originally appeared as a photo post on our Instagram feed. (more…)… Read the restBlack Friday: data says Stop the Madness!
Black Friday post: stop the madness! These are Actual black Friday shoppers at very long checkout line at a Los Angeles California area big box store (a few years ago). (For our non-US readers, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally considered the start of the holiday shopping season and known for its suppose discount sales … and large, sometimes dangerous crowds.) One person in the above line said he’d been waiting in the same Black Friday line for two hours. Oh yeah. The registers? They’re not at the far wall. They are way off to the left. The line snakes U-shaped towards the far wall in the distance first. This particular big box store notorious did door buster specials that year, then obviously had far too few temporary people at the register to handle the crush of shoppers. Infamously, they tend told people they could still get the Black Friday door buster special price off the Internet site.… Read the restRecent Comments
