Glitched Historical Centennial Bulb
A glitched pop-art version of the historic light bulb we used in one of our first IG posts. That version was the featured image for our blog article on validation of start-up ideas. This is a version of the Centennial bulb of Livermore, CA. It is the longest burning light bulb of all time. Post and some comments below may be synced from our original Instagram version. Our of our most popular posts have touched on Ray Kurzweil themes of the Singularity as well as Ray Kurzweil’s decades-old ideas on wearables that appear to have inspired Google Glass. We noticed he’s done at least one additional Ted Talk since we ran our articles. (Oh. We needed a photo for an earlier version this, so we did this glitch art of the earlier Singularity-themed photo:) Kurzweil had quite a career. After coming to national prominence at an early age on a national quiz show for his computer-generated music (in the old Black & White mainframe days), he invented a reading machine for the blind (and OCR and speech synthesis in the process). He went on to start a eponymous music synthesizer company (one of many successful companies he’s founded). Recently he founded Singularity University and did a stint at Google working on artificial intelligence. The predictions in his best-selling books and videos, based on Moore’s law, have been eerily accurate.… Read the restGlitched Hoag’s Object Ring Galaxy
Here’s a glitch art encore layout collage collage of our earlier Hoag’s object ring galaxy post. This has several glitched popart versions. Hoag’s object is a non-typical ring galaxy. Our original IG post (and a longer version on our blog) talked about Kardashev’s ideas on what a type III civilization might look like, and how it might use galaxies for energy. To which we added the newly appreciated relationship between information and energy (or rather energy gradients and entropy), ideas that have become more popular with theories such as the holographic universe, and causal fermion system. Yesterday we presented a puzzle photo. We promised to explain the relationship between the Panama Canal and Mars. Shown here in glorious black and white is the 1887 map by Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli. It shows “Mars canals.” Were these canals dug by intelligent Martians? Many in the 19th century thought so, and thought they had found proof of space aliens in their telescopes! Schiaperelli (and many others) thought they observed “canals” on Mars.(The map is in Italian or Latin with some legends in German, in part because this version was taken from an 1888 German encyclopedia version.)This has since been shown to be optical illusions; modern high-resolution maps of Mars show no such features.Part of it was mistranslation. Schiaperelli’s use of “Kanal” was translated into English as “canal”, but the usage in the original meant something closer to “channel”, a more neutral term suggesting a natural feature. In any event, everyone got very excited that there might be intelligent Martians building an advanced canal system on Mars for transport.… Read the restRecent Posts
