Blue sunset on the Red Planet Mars
This made the news yesterday, but pretty cool to include anyway since we had a whole Mars theme not long ago. The red planet normally has a red sky. But this is what sunset on Mars looks like. Just as dramatic as on Earth, but with different colors. Post and some comments below may be synced from our original Instagram version. Here’s a glitch art encore layout collage collage of our earlier Hoag’s object ring galaxy post. This has several glitched popart versions. Hoag’s object is a non-typical ring galaxy. Our original IG post (and a longer version on our blog) talked about Kardashev’s ideas on what a type III civilization might look like, and how it might use galaxies for energy. To which we added the newly appreciated relationship between information and energy (or rather energy gradients and entropy), ideas that have become more popular with theories such as the holographic universe, and causal fermion system. Solar eruption and “Black Swan” event photo overload: this is an encore layout collage of our earlier glitch variations (and original) giant sun prominent post on IG. This giant prominence erupted from the sun on Aug 31, 2012, sending a shockwave towards Earth that could have caused some very serious problems. You can read more about the Sun in our earlier posts on theories of harnessing energy from the sun apply to civilizations (including human civilizations) as well as how giant solar shockwaves pose a threat to Earth (1859 Carrington event – Wikipedia). Our earlier blog post also talked about how the Chinese have nearly 3,000 years of recorded solar observations, which comes in handy. We’ve had fun looking at the impact of science on science and tech. With the recent passing of a very popular science fiction actor, we thought this was a good time to look at big data in science fiction. Originally published on our IG feed, this is part of a series on the data science in science fiction. We’ll start with the Gaia Hypothesis (Wikipedia). As it’s name implies, it’s actually not fiction, but a hypothesis that has not been proven. It might someday be regarded as science fact. (But at the moment close enough to science fiction for government work.) According to the hypothesis, Earth’s biosphere and other processes form a network of feedback loops that keep Earth in a homeostasis. In some interpretations, Earth is almost a conscious or intelligent entity, acting to remove irritants (humans?) that threaten homeostasis. However, the stabilization or intelligent behavior emerges out of the concerted effort of all of Earth’s organisms and geochemical processes, unconsciously working together.… Read the restRecent Posts
