Glitch of steampunk icon Charles Babbage
Here’s a glitch of steampunk icon Charles Babbage himself (Wikipedia bio). (This is part 3 of a series of glitch art photos posted to our Instagram feed.) Babbage invented a mechanical computer in the 19th century that is still being studied today. It was one of our most popular set of photos on IG. So, of course we had to do some glitched art versions. Later versions of Babbage’s inventions were built after his death and performed calculations for tables used by sailors and statisticians. These early mechanical computers were gradually improved over the next 200 years, ultimately incorporating electronics. The history of the computer does not begin with the transistor. Encore glitched version of countess Ada Lovelace and her 19th century early mechanical computer. This was one of our most popular sets of photos ever (and who could resist a Countess, daughter of Lord Byron who has the Princess Leia hairstyle and is considered the first computer programmer? The programming language Ada is named after her.) So, of course, we had to do some encore glitch pop art versions. This is one of the collages. Worried about being abducted by aliens while having your morning cup of Joe? Headed for Mars and worried about getting lost? This Earth Locator Mug is the coffee mug to get. This was inspired by one of our most-liked Instagram digital art works. It’s glitch art, Warhol-esque pop-art. It was created entirely via computer algorithms from our family-friendly version of the Carl Sagan and NASA co-designed Pioneer Plaque that went into space in the 1970s. The original image provides extraterrestrials with Earth’s location using the timings of many pulsars our blog. The original is a monochrome engraving. However, because this is glitch art, this is a much cooler-looking multicolor version. Something about the design said “coffee mug” to us.If you find yourself abducted by aliens, or lost in space, this mug can be used to locate Earth. (Just hold on to it after you’re abducted. Also, you’ll probably need to find some friendly aliens first who know about pulsar timings and can help.)… Read the restGlitched Hoag’s Object Ring Galaxy
Here’s a glitch art encore layout collage collage of our earlier Hoag’s object ring galaxy post. This has several glitched popart versions. Hoag’s object is a non-typical ring galaxy. Our original IG post (and a longer version on our blog) talked about Kardashev’s ideas on what a type III civilization might look like, and how it might use galaxies for energy. To which we added the newly appreciated relationship between information and energy (or rather energy gradients and entropy), ideas that have become more popular with theories such as the holographic universe, and causal fermion system.
